Welcome
Welcome to Katanastar.com this site is a collection of of restoration information & techniques used during the Building & Tuning of a Suzuki Katana GSX SZ 1100, Mitsubishi Cordia GSR Turbo sleeper & info that you can use on your Old Mid New school BMX bikes & gear.
This is a ground up restoration of a Suzuki Katana 1981 GSX SZ 1100. The bikes where sold by Suzuki in Australia during 1981 1982 1983 with various paint, mechanical & electrical changes along the way. Years ahead of their time the angular aerodynamic body styling of the Katana caused instant controversy, saying the purists of the the day where not fond of it :( would be an understatement however it became the benchmark for the next 10 years of Japanese motorcycle styling in Japan. The Katana could be purchased with a 750 1000 1100 cc engine. The bike being restored here is a 1981 GSX Suzuki Katana 1100, The aim was to restore this bike to factory spec using NOS parts where available or practical.
The brake lines, tires & a few other components where upgraded to improve safety & reliability. Have a look at the chassis & engine rebuild on this 1986 Mitsubishi AC Cordia GSR Turbo. One of the first turbo cars ( a little after the Mitsubishi Starion)to hit the market in the early eighties it's popularity grew quickly as this potent little package hit the streets holding it's own against vehicles with double the cubic capacity. The intent was to build a performance vehicle on a budget that would primarily be a daily driver or with a tire change be prepared for some track work.
These modifications can be applied to most Mitsubishi vehicles such as Starion, Colt, Lancer, Galant, Fto, EVO turning them into potent Mitsubishi Motors Corporation weapons.
Starting from the ground up with brake, suspension & chassis mods to forming a agile platform for the 4g62 Mitsubishi SHOC Turbo ECI power plant forming a potent combination proving "it's not the size of the sea but the motion of the Ocean that does the job" power is great with control.
Lighter Faster Stronger. That was the plan check out the execution. With the inclusion of BMX as a Olympic sport & events such as the X Games it's popularity is on the rise again. I was first exposed to BMX in the late seventies through skateboarding mags then BMX Plus & BMXA magazine. I pulled the seat & bars of my Malvern Star Dragster painted it MX black added a Kashimax saddle MX stem & bars. I had a ball till it snapped. My first competition BMX bike was a Mongoose Supergoose purchased from PJ Cycles in Banksia Thanks Paul:) :) :)I raced this bike in several evolutions at various Sydney Tracks Ryde Eastwood, Menai, the Horden Pavilion indoor & few other tracks from 1979 to 1981. Rad!
I have recently had my passion reignited & have built a few Old School BMX bikes including my 1979 Mongoose Supergoose as I bought the bike then another after all the 80's "trick" parts, 82 SE Racing Floval Flyer, 1977 Repco Monoshock some others going together as parts become available A selection of BMX Tuning & Riding information covering the technical & engineering side of BMX bikes, parts & all the associated paraphernalia.

It's a great time to shop at Amazon.com, Unbeatable Sales or Y Store they offer some of the best choice & value available on the internet. I currently do a fair bit of my shopping online, finding exactly what I need for the best price. Previously I would spend hours trying to find what I wanted locally or just didn't have access to the choices available online.
